He doesn't have to be married to her if he doesn't want to be, there would be nothing stopping him from divorcing her using unreasonable behaviour. it matters not one jot if she doesn't like the status of being divorced, that is her problem, not his, unless deep down he does not want to divorce her.

"She has and still controls all the money and the finances and their complex tax situation" Then that is foolish on his part, who knows what she doing in his name and what she is doing with the money.
