I have no wish to divorce my wife
face - 27 March, 2017 03:06PM
Hello, my wife is threatening to divorce me however, I have no wish to allow her to do so. I read recently that under current uk law a person can refuse to go through a divorce until the two parties have lived apart for 2 years or more, is that correct?

Don't think that's true...she could hit you with unreasonable behaviour and the standard of proof on that is relatively low....and frankly why would you want to stay married to someone who doesn't want to be married to you? - some might say ( not me obviously ) that would be unreasonable in itself.

If your wife wants a divorce and she is correctly advised she will be able to have one and (assuming you have been married for at least one year) she can have one now. She does not need your permission or co-operation in order to have a divorce and she certainly does not have to wait until you have been separated for X years. People do not need to put their lives on hold for that.
