Consent Orders
BJS27 - 26 March, 2017 01:24PM
My soon to be ex-husband is getting his solicitor to write up a consent order for what we have both agreed. There are no children to the marriage so its just about how we split the assets etc

His solicitor is telling him we will both have to attend court and talk to a judge. Well, she will speak for him, and I will have to speak for myself.
That is not my understanding of consent orders. I didn't think you had to attend except in rare circumstances since we are already agreed.

Is his solicitor trying to pull something here to make the judge look unfavourabley on me?

My ex wife's solicitor drew up our consent order, because I didn't have a solicitor the court wrote to me and gave me 14 days I think to seek legal advice before they approved it. That might be what they are implying.

I was happy with the content as it was what we agreed but I got a solicitor just to check over the wording to make sure I wasn't being stitched up with legal jargon, I would suggest you to the same niĆ¢t to be on the safe side after all, the solicitor is working for your Ex not you.
