Applying for decree absolute before financial issues resolved

Is it possible to apply for decree absolute before any financial issues are resolved and , if so, what are the implications of doing so?

It is possible, yes. There are no 'implications'. However, it may or may not be advisable to do this. Whether it is advisable to do will depend upon whether either or both parties would suffer any prejudice if decree absolute was granted before financial issues were formally settled. Such prejudice (if it exists) can take many forms.

Not entirely sure but an example could be:
Let's say my ex got hit by a bus tomorrow (before financial settlement was reached) if we were already divorced this could impact on the entitlement to his pensions/death benefits. I would financially be in a better position if we were married and if I were widowed.
(I'm not hoping he gets hit by a bus by the way) ... yet!

I've been lead to believe it's usuallybetter to wait until finances are settled.
