Selling car before divorce
puppoggo - 16 January, 2017 03:50PM
Hello everyone, I wondered if anyone could confirm something for me. I married last April, and unfortunately the marriage broke down in August and we have been living separately since. I bought my car a few months before the wedding and am considering selling it.

My husband did not contribute to the purchase of the car; he passed his driving test a couple of months after the wedding and I then put the insurance in both of our names. He paid half of the insurance until we separated, then I allowed him to continue using the car until December when he got his own.

Am I allowed to sell the car without any repercussions? It's only worth about £300 at best, not thousands.

Thanks for your help!

Yes you can sell the car, but put the proceeds into your current account (don't hide the cash).
